My Husband Is a Pot Smoking, Alcoholic Porn Addict

Question: My husband does drugs, drinks booze all night and watches internet porn non-stop. His horrible habits are disgusting and I need a divorce to protect myself and our two young daughters.

Ever since my husband got a job where he works from home his drinking has gone crazy. It's beers with breakfast, whiskey at lunch and in the afternoon it could be wine or gin or vodka. I don't think it's safe for our daughters.

And then he's smoking pot all day. He says it mellows him out and makes him more creative. But I think it just makes him stupid and the smoke stinks up the house. And I'm scared my daughters will catch some kind of marijuana buzz from him smoking in the house. I think a divorce will at least save them from him.

On his computer I catch him all the time viewing pornography. He tries to hide it but he gets so drunk and high he'll forget that I can just look over his shoulder and I see it all; all his fetishes. On his credit card statements he's paying several thousand dollars a month for his porn.

I also think he's using escorts and prostitutes in Atlanta because he's looking at sex websites with what look to be hookers. He said they're not prostitutes they just dress provocatively. He said most of the time they sell insurance or used cars or work as servers in restaurants and they just dress very casually.

I need to know what I can do because living with a pot smoking, alcoholic porn addict is dangerous for me and the girls. My problem is that I haven't worked in about 10 years, because he wanted me to stay home with the kids.

What should I do and when can I get a divorce?

S.B. in Roswell, Georgia

Answer: The actions you describe can have serious implications in a divorce. If he is in fact using illegal drugs, viewing pornography around the children and drinking to excess to such an extent that he is endangering the children, then a judge would likely sanction him in a divorce.

His actions can have an impact on child custody, child support and visitation, among other areas. You need to document as best as possible what he is doing. Some clients have made great use of pictures and video to document their circumstances. Other clients have used postings on social media like Facebook and Instagram and texts and emails to show use of illegal drugs, excessive drinking and porn usage.

Interestingly, Georgia is a leading state for porn viewership, consistently ranking high in national surveys. Multiple studies have found internet porn users are most prevalent in states that hold conservative positions on religion, sexuality and gender roles.
