Atlanta Divorce: My husband put an ad on Craigslist

Posted by William H. Sherman on Nov 13, 2014 | 0 Comments

Question: My friend called me and said she thought that my husband put an ad on Craigslist for Atlanta.  She emailed me the ad and I couldn't believe it.  My husband was trying to meet other women on Craigslist.  He didn't use his name in the ad but there was a picture.  It was a picture of a private part.  You could also see a tattoo in the picture.  That's how my friend knew it was him.  The tattoo is unique; he designed it himself.  It's a combination of the logos of the Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Hawks and the Atlanta Falcons; he a huge sports fan.

We have been talking about divorce for about a year but I didn't think he'd cheat.  And I certainly didn't think he'd resort to an ad on Craigslist.  He said he wanted a lady for a “good time,” someone he “could satisfy.”  I think he meant sexually.  He said he was a “sugar daddy” who appreciates “good porn and good chicken wings.”  I think he wants to pay a woman for sex.  One time I think I caught him trying to pay a girlfriend but he said he was just lending her money to become a dental hygienist.

What, if anything, should I do with the ad?  Does it even matter that he's soliciting other women for sex if we get divorced?  We live in Buckhead.  My husband works in Midtown for a large bank and I work for the city of Atlanta.

Answer: The ad, if it is, in fact, your husband, can be an important piece of evidence in a divorce proceeding.  It can show intent to commit adultery, among other things.  If you can prove adultery, that could impact many issues in the divorce, including alimony.  You should certainly save the Craigslist ad.
