The Massive Hack: Adult Friend Finder, iCams.com, Stripshow.com and Penthouse.com
We've been getting calls and emails about the widely-reported leak of email accounts, passwords and IP addresses associated with the websites Adult Friend Finder, Penthouse.com, Stripshow.com and iCams.com.
We're Getting Questions about Divorce, Child Support, Child Custody & Alimony
Many people are horrified that they will be discovered looking for sex outside of their marriage and they could get divorced because of it. Some people are scared that they will lose their jobs because of the embarrassment associated with using these sites, particularly if they were viewing them during work hours. We've gotten questions related to what happens to child support and alimony payments if someone gets fired from their job because they were caught viewing sex-related websites and if they can lose custody of their child because they were watching internet porn.
The Extent of the Leak
According to media reports, this leak is massive. It is likely to expose more than 10 times the data of the Ashley Madison leak. In all, there are over 400 million accounts tied to Adult Friend Finder, Penthouse.com, iCams.com and Stripshow.com. By comparison, the entire population of the United States is 318 million people.
And because the leak involves IP addresses, passwords and email accounts, it would be very easy for someone to locate people who set-up accounts to access these websites.
Will the Information Become Available & Easily Searchable?
That question has not as yet been answered. The Ashley Madison hackers made the information available and it had a devastating impact on countless marriages and lives. There were reports of suicides caused by the hack, such as a pastor who killed himself after finding out that he could be identified as an Ashley Madison user.
Other users were tracked to government and law enforcement agencies, like the Georgia State Troopers, and a prominent Republican Georgia legislator was known to have been looking for an affair thru the site.
This hack could be far more devastating. It involves many more accounts than did Ashley Madison and it will reveal not just people looking for affairs but also people who are avid viewers of pornography.
Interestingly, among the leaked account details include 78,659 U.S. military email addresses, 5,873 U.S. government email addresses and over 95 million Hotmail accounts.
What's Next?
At this time, because the leak is so new, we really can't gauge its full impact on people's lives, although there seems little doubt that it will cause people to call divorce lawyers discuss how it can impact child custody, child support and alimony obligations.
