Question: I live in Sandy Springs and I will be divorcing my husband. I really don't want to spend that much money on the divorce because we don't have that much. But I know we need a divorce lawyer to get it done correctly.
We want to agree on everything. I don't want alimony. But I'll need child support for our 3 kids. I also want to keep our pet capybara (who is a cute rodent) and our doll collection that is pretty valuable. We agree on most issues.
We're getting divorced because my husband doesn't spend any time with me. He's either working or watching sports or talking about sports. He was spend a whole weekend talking about University of Georgia football and during the game, after drinking beer, he would drop to his hands and knees and start barking like a dog.
And one weekend when my mother was visiting us from Alabama, he just kept saying “Chipper Jones, Chipper Jones,” like he was some sort of weird computer. When I told him to shut-up he just kept repeating “John Smoltz, John Smoltz” with a strange foreign accent. I think he has serious mental issues but he won't get help.
I know that I need a good divorce attorney. A friend of mine tried to do a divorce herself and she found out 4 years later that she was still married. Even though she was also married to another man!
Is it possible to get a divorce without paying a lot of money?

Answer: A divorce does not need to be expensive. Many divorces are handled for a relatively small amount of money. The key factor is the time that an attorney utilizes. In other words, if the divorce is negotiated without much acrimony, then its cost should be pretty small.
It sounds like you and your husband are on the right track because you seem to agree on most things and you both understand that it's less costly to negotiate than litigate in court.
